Erasmus +

What is Erasmus +?

Erasmus is a scholarship program created by the European Union for the exchange of students and teachers between universities of the participating countries. The program is supported by more than 30 European countries. Erasmus provides the opportunity to study, teach or practice at an enterprise in any of the countries participating in the program.

The history and goals of Erasmus

The program was named after the Dutch philosopher Erasmus of Rotterdam, who devoted his life to the topic of education and student assistance. The program first appeared in 1987. Erasmus' goal was to support 5 million people while abroad on an exchange by 2020. Today, Erasmus is part of the European Union's Lifelong Learning Projects, which aims to improve the quality of education, establish contacts and work together with European universities.

How the program works?

The program is divided into two "subspecies": "Semester abroad" and "Practice".

A semester abroad is an exchange of students between universities. Bachelor's, master's and doctoral degree students can participate in the program. At the same time, the maximum period of stay abroad for the entire period of study (i.e. bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees) is 12 months. Studying at a university in another country can be divided into two semesters and, for example, leave for one semester during the bachelor's degree and one during the master's degree. Regardless of how you complete the program (one semester or one year at a time), you receive a scholarship for the entire period of your stay abroad. The amount of the scholarship varies each semester depending on the faculty and the number of participants (the faculty receives a certain amount each time, which is then divided equally among all participants in the exchange). The average scholarship is from €262 to €368 per month per person.

The internship program offers students who have just completed a bachelor's or master's degree to complete a paid internship at an enterprise in another country. The practice should last at least 2 months on a full-time basis.
