What is GKS?

Global Korea Scholarship (GKS), formerly known as the Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP), annually offers outstanding foreign students the opportunity to receive higher education in South Korea for free. The scholarship fully covers the tuition fees for bachelor's, master's, and doctoral programs in English and Korean.

The requirements for applicants for the scholarship in South Korea for foreigners are almost identical to the admission requirements of universities, making it not so difficult to obtain it.

What are the expenses of the GKS scholarship?

Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) is considered highly prestigious and includes the following benefits:

1.      Tuition Coverage: Full coverage of tuition fees for the chosen bachelor's, master's, or doctoral program in South Korea at a participating university in the scholarship program.

2.      Round-trip Flight: Full coverage of economy-class airfare for the shortest route from the student's home country to Korea and back.

3.      Arrival Allowance: One-time payment of $161 upon arrival in South Korea.

4.      Monthly Stipend: Monthly stipend of $671 (for bachelor's programs) or $755 (for master's and doctoral programs).

5.      Medical Insurance: Coverage of $16 per month for medical insurance.

6.      Language Course Cost: Coverage of $671 for a language course per academic quarter.

7.      Language Proficiency Allowance: One-time payment of $84 for proficiency in the Korean language.

8.      Research Support: Monthly research support of $176 (for research programs in humanities and social sciences) or $201 (for research programs in natural and engineering sciences).

9.      Thesis Preparation: One-time payment ranging from $419 to $671 for printing and formatting the thesis.

10. Completion Bonus: One-time payment of $84 for GKS scholars who successfully complete their academic program.

Who can get a GKS Scholarship?

The Global Korea Scholarship (GKS) is available to foreign students who are citizens of participating countries, including Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. These students must wish to enroll in an academic program at one of the Korean universities participating in the scholarship program.
