An international round table dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Professor B.I.Karakulov will be held

B.I.Karakulov (1942-2014) is a famous scientist, one of the leading specialists in Kazakh traditional music, who made a significant contribution to the development of national ethnomusicology.
The name of B.Karakulov is closely related to the development of musical Turkology at the present stage, the organization of the International Musical Turkological Association (IMTA), the First International Symposium "Music of the Turkic Peoples". B.I.Karakulov’s research works devoted to the problems of studying local modal features of Kazakh traditional songs, methodology for analyzing national songs and recitative genres, instrumental music, musical Turkology, relative notography, etc. are of lasting importance for the development of modern local ethnomusicology.
An important place in the scientific work of Bolat Ishanbaevich is occupied by works on musical symmetrology. Together with the development of the general theoretical aspects of this direction, the scientist's symmetrology methodology was applied by him and his followers in the study of tonality and key, intonation and melodic as well as rhythmic organizations of various genres of vocal, instrumental and vocal-instrumental music. In view of the general methodological orientation, the scientific discoveries by B.I.Karakulov go beyond the study of Kazakh music and have broad prospects for their application in other national cultures.
Bolat Ishanbayevich compiled the "Asyl Mura" musical and ethnographic collection (1981) and wrote the following monographs: "Symmetry of the Musical System" (1991), "Musical Symmetrology" -1 and 2 vols. (2019, 2021) as well as a large number of scientific and theoretical articles, etc. Under the guidance of B.I.Karakulov several candidate's dissertations were written and a number of musical and ethnographic collections were compiled.
The main thematic areas of the Round Table:
1. Researches [Works] by B.I.Karakulov and problems of modern musical science: questions of theory and history
2. Memorial. Memories of the Professor, Dr. B.I.Karakulov
Leading experts of the country and near and far abroad (Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and Canada) will take part in the work of the Round table.
It is planned to make presentations of the books: "Musical Symmetrology" (volume 2 - 2021) by B.I.Karakulov and "Music of the Turkic Peoples" by Sh.Gullyev as part of the Round Table and performances of Kazakh traditional music.
The round table will take place on April 7, 2022, at 10.00 in the Conference Hall of Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory, at the following venue: Almaty, 86 Ablaikhan Avenue, (building B). The work of the Round Table will be held in a mixed format (off-line and on-line).
