“Art in the Post-Global World: From Metatraditions to Metaculture”: International Conference Celebrating the Anniversary of the Kazakh Conservatory

On December 2, 2024, Almaty will host the International conference for researchers and practitioners "Art in the Post-Global World: From Metatraditions to Metaculture", dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Kurmangazy Kazakh National Conservatory. Section meetings within the conference will be held at the halls of the National Library of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Conservatory.
The conference will serve as an important platform for discussing current issues related to the history and development of the Conservatory, Kazakh music, as well as musical art and teaching methodologies in the context of metamodern. Key topics of discussion will include the interaction of ethnic and global elements, real and virtual dimensions, and the preservation of age-old musical traditions amidst rapid technological progress. Particular attention will be given to new trends in education and their integration into existing teaching systems.
The conference will feature the participation of the Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Rectors of creative universities in Kazakhstan, prominent cultural and scientific figures, representatives of academic and educational institutions, music educators from colleges and schools in Aktau, Almaty, Astana, Taldykorgan, Taraz, Shymkent, and Ust-Kamenogorsk, as well as teaching staff and students from creative universities in Austria, Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, Russia, and Uzbekistan.
As part of the Conservatory’s anniversary celebrations, invited international scholars will conduct master classes, including Professor Ulrich Morgenstern from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and Professor Marina Karaseva from the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory.
Following the conference, a resolution will be adopted with recommendations for the development of professional academic and traditional music education in Kazakhstan. This will include preparing composers, musicologists, conductors, vocalists, instrumentalists, and art managers capable of responding creatively and effectively to changes in culture at the global, regional, and national levels.
